Social Enterprise Development Strategy Launched

SOCIAL ENTERPRISE STRATEGY – THE WICKLOW WAY 2019 – 2021

County Wicklow Partnership is delighted to announce the launch of the Strategic Plan for the development of the Social Enterprise in the County of Wicklow.    Following a commissioned piece of research which was funded through the LEADER and SICAP programmes this research sought to identify the challenges, opportunities and supports that are required to develop this growing sector within the County.

It unfolded at least 86 Social Enterprises and over 40 of these contributed to the development of this strategy – Social Enterprise – The Wicklow Way 2019 – 2021.   The findings will provide a clear way forward for embedding social enterprise into the Economic and civic life of the community of Co Wicklow.

The Strategy was launched at The Old Schoolhouse in Lacken by Mr Richard Gavin, Assistant Principal Officer, Department of Rural and Community Development on March 6th.   A copy of the full strategy can be acquired by contacting County Wicklow Partnership on 0402 20955.

As a direct result and launch of the strategy, County Wicklow Partnership on behalf of Wicklow LCDC now invites Social Enterprises based in County Wicklow to submit Expressions of Interest for funding under the LEADER / Rural Development Programme 2014 – 2020.

A total budget of €100,000 is being made available to applicants and grant amounts will range between €5,000 (min) and €20,000 (max).   Eligible costs include Capital (refurbishment/ purchase of equipment), Analysis and Development feasibility studies) and Training.   Funding is being made available through the Economic Development, Enterprise Development & Job Creation Theme of the Rural Development Programme (Theme 1) under the sub theme Enterprise Development.

To be considered under this call, Expression of Interest forms are now available from County Wicklow Partnership, 3rd Floor Avoca River House, Bridgewater Centre, Arklow and they must be completed by close of business on Wednesday the 20th March 2019.

In addition, a call to register your interest for a planned Training and Mentoring programme for both new and existing Social Enterprises operating in Wicklow was also launched on the day and Expressions of Interest forms are available from CWP by telephone on 0402 20955 or email info@wicklowpartnership.ie.  It is expected this programme will commence in September 2019.
